Atypical, cynical, and asocial doctor, Dr. House suffers from his right leg due to a stroke that cut off blood circulation in his leg. Since then, Dr. House is forced to move around with the help of a cane. Originally, the main character was supposed to use a wheelchair, but FOX rejected this idea. The writers then chose to present Dr. House with mobility difficulties following a misdiagnosis, which forces him to use a cane. Over the course of four seasons, Hugh Laurie appears with eight different canes, which we will present to you.
The first cane seen in 19 episodes.
The first cane of Dr. House is featured during 19 episodes. House is trying to convince Cameron to rejoin his team.
Cameron notices the new cane.
The second cane first appears in episode 19. This light cane with a Derby handle is noticed by the only person paying attention to House's changes: Cameron. House then shows up at her door to offer her to come back to his team.
Dr. House's luxury cane.
To get revenge, Wilson takes great pleasure in sawing House's previous cane. House takes the opportunity to pull out of his closet a splendid silver metal cane with a curved handle, which makes a big impression during the hospital charity event.
The bad choice.
The fourth cane appears immediately after the silver metal-handled one. But this new curved wooden cane is not at all suited to Dr. House's physique and will actually worsen his health. To relieve his pain, House calls a masseuse who notices that he uses his cane on the wrong side. He will then have to move around with a quad cane...
House borrows a cane from a patient.
In episode 3x08, our doctor uses no less than three different canes: the wooden cane with a curved handle, then the quad cane to ease shoulder pain, then a more modern aluminum cane, taken from a patient in the hospital hallways right under Foreman's eyes. Wilson's dog, after chewing the handle, will force House to change his cane again.
Dr. House's flame cane.
The last cane in our series is the famous walking cane with flames. It all starts at a rather unusual antique dealer, who sells very original canes, like one adorned with a bull's genitalia, or another with a skull as a handle. House's gaze is immediately drawn to only one cane: the one with flames! Equipped with his new find, he makes a dramatic entrance into the hospital to the sound of AC/DC's "Highway to Hell." Once again, Cameron notices this new cane. Then House delivers one of the series’ iconic lines: “To make it look like I’m moving faster.”
